Of Teaching the Entrepreneurial Mindset

The last ten years have been an experiment in student engagement. What started as “I wonder if students would like to start a business” turned into six student-run businesses, a full-fledged certificate program run by six full-time faculty, and over thirteen elective courses.

We’ve learned a lot of what “to do” as well as a lot of what “not to do.” And I’ve detailed the journey, along with key learnings and takeaways, in my newest book, Teaching the Entrepreneurial Mindset: Innovative Education for K-12 Schools.

This isn’t a book about churning out entrepreneurs—though there’s certainly nothing wrong with being an entrepreneur. This is about helping students think like entrepreneurs. If they can think like entrepreneurs, they are set up for immensely successful lives.

With a foundation based on teaching growth mindset, grit, redefining failure, and opportunity seeking, the principles in the book are applicable in any setting and offer an innovative approach to engaging today’s diverse learners.
